Untamed Expeditions was born from founder Matthew Wallace’s long-standing obsession for wildlife and adventure. The idea first took shape in 2021, while Matthew was working as a herpetologist in the jungles of Mexico. Guiding students on their first experiences in the tropics, he discovered how much he loved sharing his enthusiasm for the natural world—especially his lifelong fascination with reptiles, and snakes in particular.

After relocating to Suriname in 2022, Matthew has built extensive field experience and knowledge by actively leading herping tours and expeditions into the remotest corners of the country. By 2025, with a strong foundation in place and eager to further build his brand he took the step to officially launch his own herping and expedition focused tour company.

Untamed Expeditions now operates primarily in Suriname, Matthew’s home base, offering immersive, adventurous ethically-minded herping trips (searching for reptiles and amphibians in the their natural habitat) and back to basic expeditions in some of the country’s most diverse and remote ecosystems. International expansion of herping trips are already underway, with tours across South America and beyond already being run.
